"Unforgettable Nature & Safari Experience" about visiting the Pantanal region of Brazil:
Discover the Pantanal:
Brazil’s Incredible Wetland Safari
Escape to the Pantanal, Brazil’s most fascinating nature area rivaling even the Amazon rainforest. The Pantanal is the world’s largest wetland spanning 150,000 sq km into Bolivia and Paraguay. This biodiverse paradise is home to nearly 700 bird species, 80 mammal species, 260 fish species, and 50 reptile species.
The Best Time for Pantanal Wildlife Safaris
I visited in August when day temps are a perfect 77-86°F (25-30°C) and nights cool to around 59°F (15°C). The dry season shrinks waterholes, forcing animals to congregate for drinking – prime safari viewing. The wet season disperses wildlife across flooded plains, but offers its own unique perspectives.
Up-Close Pantanal Wildlife Encounters
The Pantanal’s abundance of wildlife is breathtaking – parrots of every color, herons, stunning storks, toucans…even capybaras! These cartoonishly ugly oversized guinea pigs waddle comically. Monkeys and the elusive jaguar also roam the savannas, rainforests, rivers and lakes.
Prime Photo Ops for Wildlife Photographers
“One of the advantages of the Pantanal for photographers is the open areas with great visibility for wildlife,” says travel consultant Anny Stensvig. Storks and capybaras mingle fearlessly with caiman. Pantaneiros on horseback ride among them too.
Waking to Raucous Caracara Calls
Rise at dawn serenaded by raucous caracara calls. “Every morning at precisely 6:21am the caracaras start their gurgling shrieks, my morning alarm clock,” Stensvig says. Spot creatures like a giant anteater with her baby on forest hikes.
Getting to the Remote Pantanal
The Pantanal isn’t easily reached, requiring flights to transit cities before driving on dirt roads – all part of the remote adventure. Stensvig recommends at least 2-4 nights to properly experience this wildlife wonderland.
Extend Your Brazil Adventure
Combine your Pantanal safari with Iguazu Falls, snorkeling in Bonito’s rivers, vibrant Rio de Janeiro, and Búzios’ gorgeous beaches. This epic nature and culture trip promises unforgettable memories.
